Brandy Auterson-Hurst:
It’s now time for 4 Your Money. We’re joined by David Nelson, CEO of NelsonCorp Wealth Management. Welcome back, David.

David Nelson:
Thanks, Brandy. Appreciate it.

Brandy Auterson-Hurst:
So what are you looking at in regards to the economy and how it’s been holding up lately?

David Nelson:
Well, the big question I think everybody’s concerned about and talking about, it certainly centers around recession. It’s very difficult to predict, but we have a set of indicators from the National Bureau of Economic Research that basically it’s six different keys. And the chart that I have today basically is going to show employment, that’s in red, the employment and production measures. And in blue, basically we’re looking at spending and growth measures.
And what really stands out is that the red line has been flattening, which tells us that job growth and production have slowed, but at the same time, the blue line is still pushing higher, which is showing strength and consumer spending and overall growth. So historically, recessions don’t usually begin until several of these categories turned down basically together, and that just hasn’t happened yet.

Brandy Auterson-Hurst:
Okay. So what should investors be looking for here?

David Nelson:
Well, I think the big thing is that we want to focus on the economy, and right now, if we were to generalize and bring it down to one item, the economy looks pretty stable right now, but investors certainly need to pay attention. Keep looking, tracking, keep watching. We’re trying to keep you as updated as we can here as far as things to be aware of, but at this point in time, the broader economy looks pretty stable.

Brandy Auterson-Hurst:
All right, David, as always, thanks for joining us today.

David Nelson:
Thank you.
