Thanks again. Proud to be here.
Brandy Auterson-Hurst:
So over the past couple of weeks, we have discussed some risks that markets face. Are there any positive signs for investors out there?
Nate Kreinbrink:
Well, as we frequently discuss, there’s always positive and negative data points to focus on, and we’ve focused on some of the negative points as of late. There are a few positive things that we’ve been watching. One of those areas that we’ve been focusing on is the improvement in consumer sentiment, and I think we’ve got a chart here that kind of goes into this. So this chart is done by the University of Michigan and has looked at consumer sentiment going back 30 years. Now you can see on the far right side that in 2022 we hit one of the lowest times during this whole entire 30 year period. However, since about mid last year we’ve been seeing this rebound. Now, generally speaking, we view consumer sentiment from a contrarian viewpoint, meaning a very high reading usually sees that caution should be warranted, whereas a very low reading, there should be better times going forward. Now the sweet spot in this reading is when you see a reversal from an extremely low reading, which is what we find ourselves in today.
Brandy Auterson-Hurst:
All right, so how do you think this will impact viewers’ portfolios?
Nate Kreinbrink:
Well, there’s no one metric that is going to drive the markets. This is a positive signal. Now, if markets can maintain this positive uptrend that we’ve seen so far this year, this is going to give consumers added confidence that this uptrend can be sustainable.
Brandy Auterson-Hurst:
All right, Nate, thanks for joining us today.
Nate Kreinbrink:
I appreciate it. Thanks again.
